Pharmacy PEBC Practice Exam

Certification through PEBC means clearing two structurally different exams, in order, not two versions of the same thing.

Part I (MCQ): roughly 140 multiple-choice questions, a single day, computer-based. Tests understanding and application of pharmacy knowledge, patient care judgment, professional ethics, and problem-solving. You have to pass this before you're even eligible to apply for Part II.

Part II (OSCE): an objective structured clinical examination, taken in person on a separate day, built from a series of stations simulating common or critical practice situations. This is where you demonstrate applied clinical judgment in real time rather than selecting an answer from a list.

Both parts have to be passed within three years of passing whichever one you clear first, so there's a real clock running between your two exam days, not an open-ended timeline.

Both parts draw from the same six competency areas defined in the 2024 NAPRA Professional Competencies for Canadian Pharmacists, but they don't weight those competencies identically. Clinical Care carries the heaviest weight across both parts. Distribution-related competencies lean more heavily into Part I's MCQ format, while Communication and Collaboration is weighted more heavily in Part II's OSCE stations, which makes sense given that communication is hard to test through multiple choice and much more natural to assess in a simulated patient interaction. Leadership/Stewardship and Professionalism carry fairly similar weight across both.

Worth knowing if you last studied from an older framework: two newer competencies were added under Professionalism, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in practice, and promoting a culture of patient safety and continuous quality improvement. Make sure your prep materials reflect the current 2024 competency version, not an outdated blueprint.

Because Part I rewards knowledge application under exam conditions and Part II rewards real-time clinical communication and judgment, treating them as the same kind of studying, straight content review, undersells how differently they're actually assessed. MCQ practice builds your Part I readiness; scenario-based, communication-focused practice is what actually prepares you for OSCE stations.
